EMILY DICKINSON POEMS

In this short life

that only lasts an hour

How much

How little

Is within our power.

-----------------------

If I can stop one heart from breaking,

I shall not live in vain;

If I can ease one life the aching, 'Or cool one pain,

Or help one fainting robin

Unto his nest again,

I shall not live in vain.

------------------------

I'm nobody! Who are you?

Are you nobody, too?

Then there's a pair of us - don't tell!

They'd banish us, you know...

How dreary to be somebody!

How public, like a frog

To tell your name the livelong day

To an admiring bog!
