WEATHER AND OTHER CONUNDRUMS

It's the first day of fall and it's a beautiful day. I was walking through a local urban forest and I was thrilled to hear the crickets and birds chirping. I thought it was interesting that today felt identical to yesterday, but one was the last day of summer and today was the first day of fall. Tit for tat. Six of one, half a dozen of the other. Egal. If anything, it was even more precious of a day.

I sat down to do my budget just now, and the google doodle was amazing for the autumn equinox. I clicked on it and one of the top three stories was  from the Independent, titled Autumn Equinox 2017: Five ways to help you avoid the winter blues.

Huh?

When did we start worrying about winter on the first day of fall?

All summer the weather in Montreal was unpredictable. Each day my weather app would predict rain. Sometimes it never rained. It rarely rained when it was supposed to the day in advance. But it was SUMMER and there were many lovely hours and days, even if it wasn't the hottest summer I remember. But it seemed like everyone complained as if it rained all day every day. It was as if the entire city could not just walk out and see what the weather was. If the weather app or channel predicted rain, it was a doomed day, and people were so busy complaining that they didn't enjoy any of the precious summer day!

Well, the days are definitely shorter, but the last couple of weeks has been amazing and warm, cooling at night. The dog days of summer. Not an Indian summer, that can only happen in autumn, and then only if warm weather follows a period of frost.

So today was a gift. Just as each summer day was a gift. As are sunny warm fall days. Go outside and enjoy the day! I am grateful for each one.
